BUFFALO, NY – February 22, 2016 – Sentient Science, the leader in software solutions to extend the life of mechanical systems, recently hired energy expert Matthew Hostetler to its sales team. He’ll be tasked with aggressively scaling the company’s go-to-market capabilities to meet the rising demand for its DigitalClone Live technology in new industry markets.
In 2015, Sentient captured 14,700 wind assets, expanded its wind turbine client-base into Europe and Mexico, and grew its library index to 52,000 bearings and 3,200 gearboxes. Building on that momentum, the company has expanded its capabilities in the commercial vehicle, rail and aerospace industries.
Hostetler has an extensive background in the thermal and wind energy sectors, having managed commercial operations at Clipper Windpower and Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems. He most recently served as an Energy Sales Consultant for Solar City, prior to joining Sentient Science.
“Matt’s understanding of the wind industry and his proven track record of sales in Wind and Gas Turbine energy markets will be very useful as we rapidly grow into these new verticals,” said Elias Tavarez, Executive Vice President of Sales at Sentient Science. “His versatility and experience building scalable customer-centric organizations will be valuable as he focuses on enhancing the customer’s overall experience.”
Sentient Science, a trusted third party, provides life extension solutions for rotating machines, specifically the gearbox and its components, using materials science-based computational testing. Sentient has been investing in its research and product development for the transportation, aerospace and rail markets to leverage, in aggregate, the volumes of data being collected to match supply and demand in the mechanical drive systems and components markets.
The data provided to operators include failure rate information ranking machine health from worst to best at three levels of visibility: short term, mid-term and long term. The first visibility, 0 to 3 months, forecasts which components are entering failure modes, and provides solutions on how to execute the Remaining Useful Life of the asset. The second visibility provides a rolling forecast from 3 months to 5 years for asset managers and executives looking to extend the life of their assets. And the third visibility looks at the long-term life expectancy over a 5 year to 30-year range. Chief risk officers, mergers and acquisitions managers and executive boards want this information to leverage lower warranty costs, build long-term business plans and Buy on Life.
“Sentient’s first principles approach to big data and prognostics is unlike anything else on the market, and I’m really excited to grow that platform into new industries,” said Hostetler. “In 2015, we validated our ability to provide value 6 to 18 months out, but what I’m really excited about is our latest prediction capabilities that include short term and long term health visibility. This data will change the way these industries approach their business models. It’s exciting stuff.”
Hostetler graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business from California State University – Channel Islands.

About Sentient Science
Sentient Science, a trusted third party, believes that what is best for the rotating equipment Operator is best for the OEM and Supplier. The new business model, Buy on LifeÔ, provides the operator improved outcomes across the fleet, asset and components equal to 13% of Revenues or 1 cent per kWh. There is nothing like us. We called it DigitalCloneLiveÒ, which is a Software as a Service (SaaS). We use “Small Data” from material science rather than “Big Data” from sensors, to predict remaining Life and Life Extension of systems like drivetrains, powertrains and components, such as blades, bearings and oil. Seven applications targeted from the CEO, CFO, CRO to the Asset and Maintenance teams are available from three levels of future Life visibility, 0-3 months, 3 months to 5 years, and 5 years to 30 years. We monitor 24x7x365 by executing “always on” computational testing, simulating thousands of test points to accurately predict the life extension of systems and components.
Sentient Science is headquartered in the Advanced Manufacturing, Digital Rust Belt of Buffalo, NY. The invention of DigitalClone was hard. The company began R&D of DigitalClone in 2001, and after $25M of investment from the world’s largest operator the DoD & DoE, and ten years of R&D, DigitalClone received NASA’s validation in 2010. The company went commercial in July of 2014 and, after only 18 months, captured 15,000 of the wind turbines in the world. We were also honored by the White House in 2014 with the Tibbetts Award. Today, we are rapidly growing in the energy, industrial and transportation markets. A recent $17 million TOBA Capital 1st round investment will facilitate global expansion.
