TROY, Mich. – March 5, 2014 – The Altair Partner Alliance (APA) today announced the expansion of its offering with the addition of material failure prediction software DigitalClone, by Sentient Science. The first of its kind to be offered within the program, DigitalClone™ will allow HyperWorks users to better control product lifecycles by predicting failure probability throughout the design process.

The web-based software, DigitalClone Component™, determines the future life and performance of rotating components including bearings, gears, and splines. Design and testing teams can interrogate DigitalClone material microstructure models to test the variance of a product’s reliability under trade studies such as different duty cycles, materials, lubricants, and surface treatments. This capability enables much more testing of product performance and reliability within program budget and time.

“Sentient provides Altair customers with failure prediction and life extension for their mechanical components and systems within product development, within test, and in fielded assets in real operating conditions,” said Ward Thomas, President of Sentient Science. “For the first time, we can help both OEMs & Operators understand the behavior of their rotating assets and how to control them for maximum efficiencies, delivered over the Industrial Internet. The APA will not only allow Sentient’s current customers the ability to access DigitalClone software on Altair’s HyperWorks license manager, but also provide Sentient with the addition of many new customers, through Altair’s global sales team.”

DigitalClone Component™ will be released in two Phases with the APA. Today, the Phase I of the DigitalClone Component simulator will allow users to manipulate public fixed geometry DigitalClone models selecting from an existing library including bearings, gears and drivetrain components. In addition, users may also be able to purchase consulting services from Sentient Science and Altair to develop their custom DigitalClone models. At the Phase II launch, DigitalClone Component users in HyperWorks will have the option to independently build their own custom DigitalClone models within the APA offering.

“Altair’s new partnership with Sentient Science is an exciting and promising opportunity that we are looking forward to growing,” said Brett Chouinard, Chief Operating Officer at Altair. “Altair demands the highest quality and accuracy from our solvers and solutions. The addition of DigitalClone’s product life-cycle prediction capabilities to the Altair Partner Alliance provides yet another dimension to this client commitment.”

Sentient Science has built DigitalClone models in industries from energy to aerospace to automotive and has both validation data and test cases to share with Altair customers worldwide. Stay tuned as Sentient plans to increase its presence in the Altair Partner Alliance later this year.

Available for the last 13 years, Altair’s innovative unit-based licensing system allows HyperWorks users customizable access to a growing portfolio of applications, optimizing their return on investment (ROI) by making more than 20 in-house developed applications available by use of a single pool of recyclable HyperWorks units (HWUs).

After experiencing this original licensing model’s success, Altair has offered the opportunity for third-party companies to run their own applications under this unit-based system, a collaboration now known as the Altair Partner Alliance. The overall flexibility of these HWUs empowers users via access to the largest, most complete suite of CAE applications available. The ROI increases for users each time a new application is added to the offering, since any of the partner programs can be accessed using the same leased HWUs they are already using to run HyperWorks. This makes more than 60 additional applications available at no incremental cost or long-term commitment.

About Sentient Science

Sentient Science, founded in 2001, is an independent company based both in New York and Idaho. It uses its proprietary software and sensor technology to deploy patent pending algorithms that can predict, with a high degree if accuracy, the future life of a component based on its composition material. Additionally and uniquely the company allows a true what-if capability as its users can “test” the implication of various compositions and lubricants before the component exists and while it is in a virtual state. The Sentient team, composed by a majority of PhDs, is committed to developing technology that cost effectively improves machinery design, testing, manufacturing, and maintenance. About the Altair Partner Alliance

Altair’s HyperWorks platform applies a revolutionary subscription-based licensing model in which customers use floating licenses to access a broad suite of Altair-developed, as well as third-party software applications on demand. The Altair Partner Alliance effectively extends the HyperWorks Platform from more than 20 internally developed solutions to upwards of 50 applications with the addition of new partner applications. Customers can invoke these third-party applications at no incremental cost using their existing HyperWorks licenses. Customers benefit from unmatched flexibility and access, resulting in maximum software utilization, productivity and ROI.
