Due to an issue with firewalls behind their driver and passenger seats, Polaris Industries has announced a recall of its recreational off-road vehicles because of a burn hazard.
The company is recalling 4,500 Polaris Ranger RZR XP 900 vehicles sold between May 2012 and February 2013 due to a heat problem. The firewall located behind the vehicle’s seats can overheat and melt during use.
One report of injury, a burned finger, has been reported.
Polaris has told its customers to immediately cease use of the off-highway vehicles and contact the company to schedule repairs to their vehicles, while they will also contact some customers directly.
This is not the first time Polaris has had to experience a recall of their products. In January, the company recalled 327 of their Polaris Ranger 400 vehicles when it was discovered their throttles could fail to operate properly, putting operators in danger of losing control and crashing, which could cause injury or death.
In December 2012, the company also recalled 82 snowmobiles when learning a bolt attaching one of the vehicles’ shocks had the possibility of failure, putting drivers at risk.
Thoroughly testing components of vehicles before release could discover design flaws, saving companies costs in maintenance.
