Due to a problem with child safety locks on their rear doors, car manufacturer Ford has announced a recall of more than 13,000 vehicles.
The company is recalling 13,100 Explorer, Taurus and Lincoln MKS vehicles from the 2013 model year because their child safety locks may not work properly, according to Reuters. The issue could turn off the locks automatically, allowing doors to be opened by children from the inside of the vehicle.
Ford has said no accidents or injuries have been reported due to the malfunction, and affected vehicles were built at its Chicago assembly plant between November 29 and December 12 of 2012. A majority of the recalled vehicles are located in North America.
The manufacturer has said dealers will test the safety locks and replace malfunctioning ones for no cost.
This is Ford’s second recall in the past month, according to Fox Business. The first also affected the Explorer, Taurus and Lincoln MKS models, in addition to the 2013 Flex, Fusion and Police Interceptor models. 465,000 vehicles were recalled after 600 complaints concerning fuel leaks were received by the manufacturer.
This latest recall emphasizes the importance of product testing, as discovering design flaws through testing can save in maintenance costs.
